Peer to Peer - Kate Kyung Sun Lee

After interviewing Kate, I figured out that she was a simple girl that fits in but with some small parts in the way she dress or the way she acts that actually stands out. I wanted to design her an alphabet that obviously would fit her personality and her preferences. I draw some simple letters and added some lines that made them different but also extremely elegant. I played with the thickness of those line, and made them thinner than the original letter because even if she has some eccentric parts of her, those remain extremely small and unusual.

The way I presented Kate's alphabet was meant to be really representative of her personality too. I decided to dispose the letters in a playful way as it is big part of her but those letters are framed into black triangle which express her organized and ordered personality.

For the design of the double page I had different ideas on what I could do with my font and the biography I did of Kate's life.
First I tough that I would represent her path to New York which was actually sinuous: she left Korea to go to California, once in California she had to decide whether she would stay in California or moving to New York, she was undecided about her major and actually she's still right now! So I represented her story through a huge wave made of dots that would move from one page to the other and the right page I extracted the part of the bio that deals with this story of her life.

Then I though about the other part of her personality: Kate is a girl who is living far from her family and it does affect her a lot. When I told her what kind of animal she would be if she had to associate herself to one she told me "a puppy because they get love from people". I then wanted to represent her sensitive character so I represented a heart full of letters of the font I made for her and I divided it in black and white to show that there are different aspects in her personality that are complex but in the same time the sensitive part is predominant.

The one that I choose to be on the book was an iteration of the second one were a played a little bit more on the layout of the text.
