40 days of Dating is a web-based
project organized by two New York designers Jessica Walsh and Timothy
Goodman. Two good friends with opposite background in relationships find
themselves single during the same period decide to pursue an experiment: date
for 40 days. To make the experience successful they have to follow some
rules: seeing each other everyday, document everything, three dates per week,
not seeing anyone else, seeing a couple therapist and go on one week-end
together.
What I really love about the project is that
through the website and their daily questionnaire we learn about both point of
view and perspectives. Their understanding of each other are most of the time
not they try to convey. It is really addictive as you always want to know what
will happen next? How their relationship is going to evolve? Are they going to
fall in love?
Moreover what I really love about this project is the website in
itself. It definitely represents both of their personality and their experience
through designed "post card" for each day. One of my favorite is the
design for Tim's 33rd day. It beautifully depicts how they were supposed
to hold hands all day long through a drawing of two persons far away with
extended arms and hands that wants to be hold with a caption incrusted that
says "My hand misses her hand".
